Statement of Faith: What Danube Believes

About the Scriptures:
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God. Men were moved by the Spirit of God to
write the very words of Scripture. We believe the Bible is without error in the original manuscripts,
true, authoritative and trustworthy. It is the standard of faith and practice for the church. 1
About God:
We believe in one eternal God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God). He was born of
a virgin, lived, died, and rose again to reveal God to humanity as the Savior of the world. 2
About Humanity:
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God to have fellowship with him. We all
became alienated from God through sinful disobedience. As a result, no one is capable of
regaining a right relationship with God through his own efforts.3
About Salvation:
We believe that the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for
the forgiveness of sin. We believe he rose bodily on the third day, conquering death and assuring
eternal life. God freely offers salvation to those who place their faith in the death and resurrection
of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. 4
About the Christian Life:
We believe all Christians are redeemed to live for Christ and not for themselves. By faith,
obedience to the Word of God, continual yielding to the Spirit of God, and engagement in caring
community, every believer should increasingly reflect Christ-likeness. 5
About the Church:
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members
of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the
church is to glorify God by knowing, loving, and honoring him, and by making him known to the
lost world. 6
About Church Ordinances:
We believe that the Lord ordained two practices, or ordinances, to be observed by all believers
until His return: Baptism and Communion. Our church practices believer’s baptism - that is,
anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior may request baptism by
immersion in water to fulfill the Lord’s command. For those who come to the church as believers,
we accept without reservation other forms of baptism already administered. Communion (or the
Lord’s Supper) is a commemoration of Jesus’ death, the elements being used as emblems of His
brokenbody and shed blood. It is open to all self-examined believers regardless of church
affiliation.7
About Human Destiny:
We believe that death seals the eternal destiny of each person. All humanity will experience a
bodily resurrection and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual. Believers will be
received into eternal communion with God. Having rejected God and His offer of salvation,
unbelievers will suffer eternal condemnation apart from Him.8
About the Second Coming of Christ:
We believe that Jesus will return personally, visibly, and triumphantly to consummate history,
vindicate faith, and reign eternally. 9
